What is Tooth Whitening?

Tooth whitening is a procedure that will help in restoring the natural shade of your teeth or making them whiter than they previously were. The process will help in breaking the stains that have formed on the teeth over time and as the process continues over time the shade of your teeth will change, making them brighter.

There are various methods that can be used to whiten the teeth and some of them are listed below:

Use of whitening toothpaste

There are kinds of toothpaste that are specially made to brighten the teeth over a period of time. The high hydrogen peroxide concentration in the toothpaste will have a bleaching effect on the teeth though this method will take longer to show positive results. The toothpaste will only work on the stains that are on the surface while the stains between the teeth will not be removed.

Use of whitening strips

The strips will be placed on the stained teeth for a specified period which is usually for one hour, a practice that should be carried out for at least 14 days. The strips have different strengths and the duration they will take to show positive results will depend on how strong the strips are. Like the toothpaste, this method will only remove surface stains.

Laser teeth whitening

This is a process that will be carried out by a dentist where he will soak the teeth in a solution meant to whiten teeth. The dentist will then point a laser towards the teeth so that the whitening solution can be activated. This process should only be carried out by a professional dentist. This is the best method for a person that wants a fast outcome as the process will show results immediately. The downside with the process is the cost that one has to pay for the service as the process is very expensive as it will only be done by a licensed dentist.

The whitening method that you have chosen will determine the results. If you are not in a hurry to get results or you do not have the funds to get on with a professional teeth whitening, you can choose the less expensive process such as the use of a toothpaste.
